Call for Papers

Studies in Corpus Linguistics (SiCL) is a premier international, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the exploration and advancement of corpus-based and corpus-driven research methodologies across all linguistic disciplines. SiCL provides a platform for the dissemination of cutting-edge research that leverages corpus linguistics to uncover new insights into language, inform theoretical developments, and support interdisciplinary studies. We welcome contributions that employ innovative corpus methodologies, address emerging trends, and explore the intersection of corpus linguistics with other fields.

Areas of Interest:

We invite submissions that contribute to the following areas, among others:

  • Corpus Compilation and Annotation: Advanced techniques in the creation, annotation, and management of linguistic corpora.
  • Corpus-Based Studies: Empirical investigations that utilize corpus data to explore linguistic phenomena, language patterns, and usage.
  • Corpus-Driven Studies: Research that derives theoretical insights and models directly from corpus evidence, contributing to the development of linguistic theory.
  • Discourse Analysis: Corpus-based approaches to discourse across various genres, registers, and social contexts.
  • Lexicography and Lexical Studies: Corpus-informed studies on lexical trends, dictionary compilation, and word usage.
  • Language Variation and Change: Diachronic and synchronic studies of linguistic variation and change using corpora.
  • Sociolinguistics: Corpus approaches to sociolinguistic issues, including dialectology, language contact, and variation across social groups.
  • Language Teaching and Learning: Application of corpus linguistics in language education, pedagogy, and assessment, including the creation of educational resources.
  • Genre and Register Analysis: Studies of linguistic variation across different genres, registers, and professional domains using corpus methodologies.
  • Cross-Linguistic Studies: Comparative studies using corpora to explore linguistic similarities and differences across languages and cultures.
  • Digital Humanities: The integration of corpus linguistics into digital humanities, including text mining, big data analysis, and cultural analytics.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Manuscripts: Submissions must be original works that have not been previously published or are currently under consideration elsewhere. Manuscripts should range from 6,000 to 8,000 words, including references, figures, and appendices.
  • Abstract: Authors should provide an abstract of 200-250 words that succinctly summarizes the study’s key findings, methodology, and contributions.
  • Keywords: Include 4-6 keywords that capture the essence of the study and facilitate indexing and search.
  • Formatting: Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with APA 7th edition guidelines. All submissions must be in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).
  • Figures and Tables: Ensure that all figures and tables are clearly presented, sequentially numbered, and referenced within the text. High-quality, publication-ready figures and tables are required.
  • References: All references and citations must strictly adhere to APA 7th edition formatting.
  • Peer Review Process: All submissions undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process. Authors must ensure their manuscripts are anonymized to maintain confidentiality during the review.

Author Guidelines:

  • Authorship: All contributors to the research should be properly acknowledged. Authors are requested to provide a brief biographical note, including their current institutional affiliations and research interests.
  • Ethical Considerations: Authors must comply with ethical standards, including obtaining necessary permissions for data use, ensuring the confidentiality of participants, and adhering to ethical research practices.
  • Plagiarism Policy: Submissions will be screened for plagiarism. Manuscripts found to contain plagiarized material will be rejected without further review.
  • Submission Procedure: Authors should submit their manuscripts, along with a cover letter, to editor.sicl@gmail.com. The cover letter should include the manuscript title, author names, institutional affiliations, and a declaration that the submission is original and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • Review Timeline: Authors can typically expect to receive initial feedback within 8-10 weeks from the submission date.
